Abstract

In order to guide the selection of effective sealants for prevention of caries, the author had experimented and compared such physico-chemical characteristics as hardness, solubility, absorption rate, hydration expansion rate and scanning electro microscopic examination. Five sealants such as Hipol, Concise light, Concise self, Delton and Teethmate-s were selected for materials in this experiment.
The obtained results were as follows.
1. By the Vicker¢¥s hardness test, it was estimated that Concise self and Teethmate-s were comparatively high and Concise light and Delton were some low degree.
2. By the solubility test in acid solution, it was estimated that delton was a high acid resistance sealant and Concise self was comparatively low.
3. Absorption rate was represented the highest in Delton and lowest in Concise light.
4. Hydration expansion rate was the highest in Hi-pol and it was estimated some low degree in Delton and Concise self. But there is no hydration expansion in Concise light.
5. Through the examinations with scanning electro microscope, it was represented that Hi-pol had comparatively large particles and rough surface and Concise self had some small particles and dense surface.
